0:00 These custom instructions, what they let you do is they let you tell ChatGPT some information and then ChatGPT will save that information and every new chat that you start with ChatGPT, it will have that context. So if you've ever learned about how to prime ChatGPT, or how to talk to a correctly, give it context is the number one rule. You're supposed to tell it something before you ask a question, so it knows which direction to go.
0:47 So you don't have to have too much back and forth. This lets you save that and every time you have a new conversation, it will just know that about you. So let me show you exactly how it works. So OpenAI has this really useful options under their blog post about it. So it says right here, if you don't have custom instructions turned on, and you ask ChatGPT, what would be three important things to teach about the moon?

But if you give it custom instructions, which is basically that context, priming ChatGPT to answer you the way you want, chatGPT is gonna ask you for two different things to fill out. The first question is, what would you like ChatGPT to know about you to provide a better response? So it says, I work on science education programs for third grade students. So now, it's going to know that every time you start a new chat.
1:38 Then you are going to tell it. How would you like ChatGPT to respond. This is where you could ask for a format. So here it says, table formats, outlining pros and cons for each solution, making it easy to compare and make a decision. So this is going to give you that kind of response every time. And look at the difference here. So this is now the output it gave you. Before, remember, we just got three different answers like that in numbered lists.
2:01 This one is more specific to exactly what we're looking for. Okay. First, let's go ahead and activate it. A couple of things to note as I'm recording this. This just came out, so this is only available to ChatGPT plus users. I believe they are going to roll this out to free members soon, but right now it's only in the plus version of ChatGPT. And as I'm recording this, it's not yet available in the UK and Europe.
