### Daewoo E&C Wins Grand Prize at Korea AI Innovation Awards - A Practical Shift for Smart Construction

Daewoo Engineering & Construction won the Comprehensive Grand Prize at the 1st Korea Artificial Intelligence Innovation Awards, held on the 10th at the National Assembly Museum. The awards recognize human-centered AI and responsible technology use under the vision of "K-AI Humanism," with backing from major ministries and industry bodies.

For construction professionals, this isn't a trophy story. It signals faster adoption of AI on real projects, more predictable outcomes, and tighter control over time, cost, and quality.

#### Why Daewoo E&C Stood Out

- In-house global communication tool: **Barot Letter AI** for multilingual support.
- AI contract analysis: **Barot Answer AI** to review and interpret contract documents.
- **BIM**\-based design and construction workflows.
- **Real-time safety monitoring** for site risk visibility.
- **IoT-backed OSC** (off-site construction) to stabilize quality and logistics.

Taken together, this is a practical stack: AI for comms and contracts, BIM for coordination, sensors for safety, and OSC to control variability.

#### How They're Organizing to Execute

Daewoo E&C launched the in-house Daewoo Smart Construction Alliance in March to align housing, architecture, civil, and plant teams around common digital tools and standards. The goal is straightforward: speed up digital delivery and remove operational friction.

On November 5, the company was selected as the 3rd Chairman of the industry-wide Smart Construction Alliance, a consultative body launched in 2023 and led by private companies with government support. Expect more coordination across large contractors, SMEs, and ventures as standards and adoption mature.

#### What Changes on Site

- Wider field deployment of AI tools across major projects.
- Automated, digital process management from design through handover.
- Stronger quality control and faster issue resolution through integrated data flows.
- Safety monitoring tied to real-time alerts and site dashboards.

The company plans to keep scaling AI-based smart construction to improve construction quality and throughput while tightening process discipline.

#### The Data Backbone

Following a reorganization, Daewoo E&C created an AX Data Team (AI Transformation) to drive a company-wide AI strategy and build a data platform. Headcount and capabilities in smart construction will expand to support new growth areas and technical depth.

Company statement: "This award is a meaningful achievement that confirms Daewoo E&C's status as a national representative of AI innovation in the construction industry. We will lead the smart construction sector through continuous technology development and innovation, including upgrading AI platforms, strengthening artificial intelligence-related organizations, and expanding industry-academia and public cooperation."

#### Context for Practitioners

- BIM remains the backbone for coordination and data continuity. For standards and practices, see [buildingSMART International](https://www.buildingsmart.org/standards/bsi-standards/?ref=completeaitraining.com).
- OSC adoption benefits when tied to clear information models and tracked logistics; combining BIM, IoT, and AI is where gains add up.
