Deutsche Telekom expects more AI inference workloads to shift from centralized cloud environments toward edge networks and on-device processing. The move is driven by lower-latency requirements for robots and autonomous services that cannot tolerate the round-trip delays of distant data centers.

For IT and operations leaders, this distribution of AI workloads means security, observability and service-level management must also be distributed. Planning should account for these functions running across edge locations and devices, rather than assuming all AI processing will stay in a single, centralized environment.
