Palantir's U.S. commercial revenue more than doubled in the third quarter and edged past its U.S. government business for the first time, the company reported Monday. The milestone marks a shift for a firm long identified with defense and intelligence contracts toward selling AI tools to private companies.

Revenue reached $2.31 billion, up from roughly $1.17 billion a year earlier and above the $2.18 billion analysts expected, according to LSEG estimates. Adjusted earnings per share came in at 44 cents against a 41 cent forecast. Net income more than doubled to $1.13 billion, or 44 cents per share, from about $476 million, or 18 cents per share.

Shares fell about 3% in extended trading despite the beat.

#### Commercial overtakes government

U.S. commercial revenue jumped 148% to $984 million, while U.S. government revenue rose 96% to $953 million. The commercial figure has more than quintupled over two years. Total revenue crossed $2 billion for the first time.

CEO Alex Karp attributed the results to demand rather than sales effort. "I don't believe anyone's had consistent results like this in the history of software AI, ever," Karp told CNBC, adding that the business is succeeding without salespeople.

The company raised guidance, now projecting U.S. commercial revenue "in excess of" $3.56 billion for the full year, up from $3.42 billion guided last quarter. It expects about $2.65 billion in fourth-quarter revenue and about $8.53 billion for full-year 2026.

#### Karp presses his case on AI oversight

Karp has backed open-weight models and criticized leading AI labs, telling CNBC earlier this year that they force businesses to give up data sovereignty. On Monday he repeated calls to nationalize AI labs, calling it the "only realistic way" to manage liability.

He joined major tech CEOs at the White House in September as pressure for regulation grew. "My message to everybody is: Beware of thinking you can delay the future in AI," he told CNBC. "The future is here. The political ramifications of it are here."

#### Why this matters for finance and strategy teams

A commercial segment outgrowing government revenue signals where enterprise AI budgets are moving, and the pace matters for anyone modeling vendor risk or competitive exposure. Teams evaluating AI suppliers should note that Palantir's growth came without a large sales force, which puts pressure on vendors that rely on long deployment cycles and heavy services contracts. The raised full-year guidance also sets a benchmark: if your own AI spending plans assume slower adoption, this quarter's numbers argue otherwise.
