A day in the life of an Aerospace Engineer: what changes with these prompts.

Diego, a propulsion test engineer at a small launch company.

Diego starts Thursday with a valve actuator that behaved oddly during a static fire. He opens ChatGPT and uses the Drafting Technical Documents prompt to turn his rough notes into a test report outline. He adds the test date, the actuator part number, and the two anomalies he saw: a current spike at ignition and a slower close time on the second run.

Next he opens Claude and uses the Analyzing Flight and Test Data prompt. He pastes a cleaned column of chamber pressure and actuator current, then asks for trends and possible links. Claude points to a pressure dip near the same moment as the current spike, which gives Diego a place to look in the harness.

After lunch, he uses the Checking Calculations and Drawings prompt in Gemini. He asks it to review the units on a fuel line bracket drawing and the notes for a torque callout. It flags that one note says inch pounds while the rest of the drawing uses foot pounds, so he sends a correction to the drafting team.

Before the day ends, Diego uses the Preparing Stakeholder Communication and Admin prompt to draft a customer update and meeting minutes with action items. He edits the update, sends it, and leaves on time. He coaches his daughter's soccer practice and still has energy to cook dinner, because the writing and data review did not follow him home.

Before

  • Reports take all afternoon
  • Telemetry notes pile up
  • Questions wait for answers
  • Late nights before reviews

After this course

  • Reports draft in minutes
  • Data trends are clear
  • Updates go out on time
  • Home for dinner

What you'll learn

  • Drafting technical documents: Turn rough test notes into a clear report or design memo with a structured first draft.
  • Explaining complex concepts: Translate a technical point into a short explanation for a manager, supplier, or customer.
  • Analyzing flight data: Ask AI to summarize telemetry trends, suggest parsing steps, or help write small data scripts.
  • Planning tests: Outline a ground test campaign, build a certification checklist, and spot missing steps.
  • Checking calculations: Review units, drawing notes, and calculation approaches before a design review.
  • Trade studies: Compare weight, cost, and performance options in a clear side by side format.
  • Troubleshooting issues: Describe a mechanical, sensor, or software issue and get possible causes to investigate.
  • Stakeholder updates: Draft customer updates, safety bulletins, and meeting minutes with action items.
