0:00 welcome to episode 19 of our comfy youi tutorial Series today I want to show you how I use in painting to modify photos or illustrations add or change elements and fix mistakes so you can use your creativity to take your images to the next level it was a highly requested episode and now it's finally here first we need a custom node so go to the manager and then to custom nodes manager if you search for inpaint you'll see quite a few nodes but if you search for inpaint crop you'll find this node along with its author click install and wait for it to finish installing then click the restart button next let's go to the workflow and open a basic sdxl workflow like the one uh from episode 3 it will be easier to understand when we start with something we already know now we need to inpainting model and this one is an sdxl Bas version that helps achieve better inpainting but if you have another favorite in painting model feel free to use that download this model and
1:13 place it in the checkpoints folder just like any other sdxl model you can see I've already downloaded the model now if your comfy UI is Open click the refresh button after that in the load checkpoints section you'll find the downloaded model and you can select it we now need to know just before the case sampler so I'll make some space there then double click on the canvas search for in paint and add the inpaint model conditioning node as you can see on the left we have two inputs for positive and negative prompts which we can connect to our positive and negative prompts on the right we also have outputs so we can connect it to the case sampler now our positive and negative prompts will'll go through this conditioning node uh we'll also connect the latent here and since we are using inpainting we need to add our own image so we don't need the empty latent image node next we connect it to the vae for this model it's included in the checkpoint so we'll um connect it there now we need to add our image so we'll
2:23 use the load image node I will upload this portrait of a woman then we need the inpainting nodes that we installed earlier so search for inpaint and add the inpaint crop node as well as the inpaint Stitch node we need both of these nodes one will crop our selection and the other will combine it back into the original image as you can see it's easy to connect the image to image and mask to mask the cropped image will go to the inpainting conditioning node both have a blue color then the mask will also go there to the mask input and both are green in a minute we will make a selection here that selection will be cropped and go through this uh conditioning similar to the image to image workflow but just for the portion we want to in paint however the image is not stitched back to the original image which is why we use this node um after the decode it goes back to stitching and then we save the image so we need to connect that Stitch node so it knows to
3:32 combine our cropped and original images into one final image that is basically the the workflow it isn't that complex right now we need to um adjust one setting here if you're using an SD 1.5 model you can leave the settings as they are but in our case we're using the sdxl model so we need larger images instead of using the range size we will use a forced size to set it to 10,24 pixels since sdxl models okay it's time to run some tests make sure you have the inpainting model selected and now we can go to our uploaded image right click on the image and select open in mask editor in this editor we can paint our selection the area we want to
