0:03 But take a look at this. Gemini CLI has been launched an opensource AI agent. If Google do this right, Claude Code really have something to uh be keeping their eye on. Let's just say that this is incredible because it's free and we're going to test it out. So essentially all of that goodness from Google Gemini Pro 2.5 is available now at the command line to make any app you wish if you're technically minded. Uh, what can we pick up from their launch post that just went out a few hours ago as I do this live stream presently?
0:50 Well, we can tell that it's powerful, it's open source, and it runs in your terminal at no cost. You see that with security in mind. Gemini 2.5 Pro by default, large context window. That means 1 million tokens. Oh, wow. Google are killing it again. Now, let's take a look at the limits here. We've got 60 model requests a minute. 60 requests a minute. I mean, I can't think of an application I'll be using that many requests.
1:14 Uh, plus, uh, you'll be able to do 1,000 model requests for free per day. That's generous. And they're open sourcing it. It's free of charge. So, um, I don't want to chat about it anymore. Frankly, I I want to try it. So, I'm going to crack open the terminal on my Mac here and see if we can get some really good stuff going on. I'll follow there step by step. Let's see if we can actually organize this in a sort of nice logical way so I can install and also have instructions and other bits that may become handy to me on the screen as well.
2:01 Let's make this a little bit smaller. Let's kind of go split screen developer coder view like so. Um so I guess I want to I want to try this and you should try it too. Um by the way, hi there viral. Nice to see you. Thanks to those of you joining who are curious right now. uh we're going to give it a go. So, okay, let's uh let's click through and have a look. Okay, so they've put the open source code out here on on GitHub, which is amazing.
2:24 And they've given a quick start. Uh one, two, three, four. That's all you have to do. Okay, so let's do it. First of all, you got to have Node on your system, and they provide a handy dandy link to do that. You just get it for any I would go for the LTS version. long-term support rather than current, which I have that installed on my Mac, but you can of course use Windows or Linux if you want.
2:46 Um, all you got to do is just download node. Okay, there's a downloader here for Mac. And then, like you see, I've got a terminal open. And then I copy and paste this command over here. So, let's do it. Copy paste. Boom. We get that node spinning thing. Uh, need to install the following packages. Google Gemini. Gemini- CLI. Proceed. and I type Y and away it goes and does its magic. And once that's all done, we'll ins Oh no, that's that's the second command.
3:13 Alternatively, you can use this command. Well, I've just used that command. So, I hope it works. Wow, that was quick. Okay, Google Gemini is installed. What I'm actually going to do, uh, for the sake of my OCD, I'm actually going to move this. You see, I've got cursor open in the background as well. It's It's been a busy day. Can I tell you, it's been a busy It's been a busy day. I really don't need to be making a video about Gemini CLI right now.
3:37 I'd rather just be uh chilling out in the British No, actually, I love this stuff. That's why I'm doing it. Chilling out in the British sunshine, you know, uh drinking an alcohol-free Corona. But anyway, enough said with that. We are here coding. Uh so, hi from Libya. Nice of you to join in on the live stream. Uh so, what I've got here is I've got my uh browser window and I've got my terminal window open and we're going to be doing good stuff.
3:59 Uh, I say it's been a busy day and the reason why, and here's a quick plug for those of you coming in to learn about Gemini CLI, you'll just have to put up with 30 seconds of me talking about my new course, uh, where you can join ship your app in four weeks. Uh, select a launch plan, join my cohort that's starting soon. Look at that. June 30th, Monday, June 30th. So that's next week. We start learning together.
4:23 It's a four-week cohort, and the early bird pricing ends in uh just over two days, so you can save quite a bit of money. I'm not going to bore you with anymore, but if you fancy building apps and you basically need a technically minded person sitting alongside you or holding your hand in the nicest possible way, of course, maybe that could be me and uh
