A day in the life of a Computer Science Student: what changes with these prompts.

Priya, a second-year computer science student.

Priya has a data structures assignment due Friday and a group project meeting at 4. She opens ChatGPT and uses the "Decode Coding Assignments" prompt to break the assignment into steps. The prompt asks her to list what the assignment gives her, what it wants back, and three questions she still has. She writes her own plan in a notebook.

Next she uses the "Debug Programs with AI" prompt in Claude on a segmentation fault in her C code. She pastes the error and a short description. The AI suggests checking an array index, and she traces it herself to find the off-by-one mistake.

After lunch she opens Gemini and uses "Practice Data Structures" to drill Big O for linked lists and hash tables. The AI quizzes her and she explains each answer out loud. At the group meeting she shares a short progress update she wrote herself.

That evening she uses "Prepare for CS Exams" in ChatGPT to generate five practice questions on graph traversal. She marks the ones she misses and reviews her notes. By 8 p.m. she has finished the assignment plan, fixed the bug, and studied for an hour. She spends the time she won back on her portfolio project, a small recipe app, and writes a clear README so she can explain it in an internship interview.

Before

  • Staring at a blank assignment page.
  • Debugging until midnight with no plan.
  • Cramming notes the night before exams.
  • Group projects with unclear tasks.

After this course

  • A clear plan before writing code.
  • Bugs found and fixed faster.
  • Exam practice that shows weak spots.
  • Portfolio work that gets done.

What you'll learn

  • Decode Assignments: Use AI to understand what an assignment is asking and plan your own solution before writing code.
  • Study Algorithms: Use AI to build intuition for algorithms, compare approaches, and practice explaining them clearly.
  • Debug Programs: Use AI to interpret errors, trace logic, and get debugging suggestions without handing over the fix.
  • Practice Data Structures: Use AI to simulate operations, compare structures, and drill complexity analysis for common data structures.
  • Review Lectures: Use AI to condense lecture material, turn notes into active recall tools, and check your understanding.
  • Prepare for Exams: Use AI to organize exam study, generate realistic practice, and learn from mistakes before test day.
  • Collaborate on Projects: Use AI to organize teamwork, improve code review, and communicate progress on shared software projects.
  • Build Your Portfolio: Use AI to scope your own projects, document them well, and prepare to explain them in internships or interviews.

How this course works
