58% of CFOs worldwide rank AI investment as their top growth strategy, survey finds

58% of CFOs worldwide name AI investment their top growth priority, outranking hiring, product expansion, and new-market entry. The finding comes from a January 2026 Coupa survey of 600 finance leaders across seven countries.

CFOs rank AI investment as their top growth priority

Fifty-eight percent of CFOs worldwide cite increasing AI technology investments as their leading growth strategy, according to a January survey of 600 finance leaders by Coupa. AI tops product expansion (53%), hiring (47%), and new-market entry (46%) as a capital priority.

The CFO consensus reflects spending patterns at major corporations. Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft plan between $595 billion and $625 billion in combined capital expenditures in 2026, much of it directed toward AI infrastructure. JPMorgan Chase plans to spend $19.8 billion on technology in 2026, up 10% year-over-year, with CEO Jamie Dimon calling AI a "core strategic priority."

What this means for your budget

If you're seeking funding for AI initiatives, this data provides clear evidence that peer organizations treat AI investment as a primary growth lever. The 58% figure demonstrates that AI ranks above traditional expansion tactics-hiring, product development, and geographic entry-in the strategic playbooks of finance leaders globally.

The survey covered CFOs and senior finance leaders in the US, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Japan, and Australia between December 2025 and January 2026.
