Adaptive Insurance adds property-level storm risk scoring to underwriting
Adaptive Insurance has integrated ZestyAI's Z-STORM platform into its wind and hail underwriting and pricing programs, moving beyond territory-based risk assessment to evaluate individual properties.
Z-STORM generates property-specific risk scores by analyzing how local weather patterns interact with a building's physical characteristics. The model assesses hail vulnerability through roof geometry and accumulated damage, evaluates wind susceptibility via roof condition analysis, and forecasts total storm losses by examining climate patterns against each structure's unique features.
The approach identifies elevated-risk properties even when they sit alongside lower-risk buildings in the same neighborhood. Each score includes transparent explanations of its underlying drivers, which ZestyAI says supports more defensible rate-making decisions.
Regulatory approval and carrier adoption
Z-STORM has received regulatory acceptance across 32 US states. ZestyAI's broader portfolio of AI-powered risk models has accumulated more than 200 regulatory approvals nationwide.
Adaptive Insurance CEO Mike Gulla said the integration allows the carrier to "price and underwrite more confidently and offer coverage that truly reflects how storm risk behaves." ZestyAI founder Attila Toth said the platform enables carriers to "identify pockets of exposure earlier, before they translate into outsized losses."
Adaptive Insurance specializes in climate-focused insurance products. The company joins other carriers adopting granular, property-level risk assessment for storm exposure.
