Adesso expands insurance AI portfolio with omni:us acquisition

German IT services firm adesso has acquired omni:us, a specialist in AI-powered claims processing for insurers, and will fold the technology into its insurance software portfolio. The deal adds an agent-based system that already handles claims for Allianz, UNIQA, and MS Amlin, moving AI from standalone tools into the core systems insurers use every day.

omni:us says its models have been trained on several million annotated claims cases and more than 80 million insurance documents. The company reports that insurers using its technology see measurable gains in claims handling efficiency and key performance indicators.

What adesso is getting

The acquisition brings two things to adesso: the omni:us technology and its team. The agent-based application processes complete claims cases from initial notification through to payout without human intervention. For complex cases, it shifts into an AI copilot mode that supports claims handlers with recommendations and data preparation.

adesso will integrate omni:us into the in|sure Ecosphere platform provided by its subsidiary adesso insurance solutions. That platform is a cloud-enabled application for core insurance processes, from policy administration to claims management. The combined offering lets insurers run AI-supported claims automation as a native part of their existing core systems rather than as a separate add-on.

"Insurers will use AI-supported claims automation as a native element of their existing core systems, turning AI from an isolated add-on application into an integral part of operational processes," adesso said.

The agentic layer records and executes transactions, interprets information, and connects data to prepare decision-making foundations within defined parameters. That design addresses the requirements of regulated insurance processes: explainability, human oversight, operational reliability, and traceability.

Track record and scale

omni:us brings ten years of experience building AI for insurance. Its client list includes Allianz, UNIQA, and MS Amlin, all of which already automate parts of their workflows with the technology. For professionals exploring similar implementations, AI for Insurance Courses & Certifications covers the practical side of deploying these systems in claims operations.

adesso's CEO Mark Lohweber highlighted the operational proof behind the deal: "With omni:us, we are gaining a solution that has already proven itself in day-to-day operations. In addition, we are gaining a team of proven specialists that complements our AI expertise in this area."

adesso employs 11,500 staff and reported sales of around €1.5 billion, with offices across Germany, Europe, and Asia. The company did not disclose the financial terms of the acquisition. Those tracking agentic systems in insurance may also find AI Agents & Automation Courses useful for understanding how these tools handle end-to-end processes.

Why this matters for insurance professionals

Claims teams should watch how this integration plays out. The pitch from adesso is that AI becomes part of the core system rather than a separate tool claims handlers have to switch between. That means the technology will sit closer to daily workflows, and the people operating it will need to understand when to let the agent run and when to step in.

The deal also signals that AI claims automation has moved past pilot stage. omni:us has production deployments at major carriers and measurable results. For claims managers, the practical question is no longer whether AI can handle simple cases - it's how their teams will work alongside systems that manage the full lifecycle from notification to payout.
