Ahold Delhaize USA appoints Vipin Gopal as chief data and AI officer
Vipin Gopal has joined Ahold Delhaize USA as senior vice president and chief data and artificial intelligence officer for the U.S. businesses. He will report to chief information officer Ann Dozier and lead the company's data, analytics and AI strategy.
Gopal will oversee enterprise data foundations, accelerate AI adoption across the organization and support Ahold Delhaize USA's Growing Together strategy. His mandate includes embedding data-driven decision-making into business operations.
Dozier said Gopal's experience transforming large organizations will help the company build a data center of excellence. "His leadership will be instrumental in helping us unlock differentiated value for our customers, brands and associates," she said.
Background and experience
Gopal brings more than 25 years of experience leading digital, data and AI transformations at Fortune 100 companies. Most recently, he served as chief data and analytics officer at Eli Lilly and Walgreens Boots Alliance, where he oversaw enterprise-wide data and AI strategy, advanced analytics deployment and data platform modernization.
Earlier roles include senior leadership positions at Humana, Cigna, United Technologies and Honeywell. He currently sits on the board of directors at Concentra.
Chief Data Officer Magazine named Gopal its inaugural Global Executive of the Year in 2022. Technology Magazine ranked him second globally among Chief Data & Analytics Officers in 2024. His writing has appeared in Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, Scientific American, Nature and Forbes.
Gopal holds a doctorate from Carnegie Mellon University, an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business and a Bachelor of Technology from IIT Bombay.
