Allianz cuts travel insurance claim time to hours with AI
Allianz has reduced travel insurance claim processing time from 14 days to 3-4 days by deploying AI assistance across 65 to 70% of all claims, according to DeAnne Bell, the company's Director of Partnerships.
In some cases, the insurer now processes claims within hours. Bell made the announcement at Signature Travel Network's Horizon Club event aboard the Starship Sydney last week.
How the shift happened
The speed improvement stems from AI Agents & Automation handling the bulk of claim intake and processing. The previous 14-day average was standard for Signature partners before Allianz implemented the change.
Bell attributed much of the efficiency gain to the company's Allyz mobile app, launched in January 2024. The app lets customers file claims from start to finish without leaving the application.
What the app does
Allyz uses geolocation to identify nearby hospitals that Allianz has personally vetted. The company employs 147,000 staff globally who maintain this network.
The app also connects users to Allianz's complimentary Global Doctor service. Customers can search for vetted local doctors at their destination, schedule virtual visits, or request in-person visits to their hotel room within hours.
There is no claim filing required for the doctor service and no out-of-pocket cost. Bell said the company is receiving strong feedback on the feature.
For AI for Insurance professionals, the Allianz case demonstrates how automation can reduce processing backlogs while maintaining service quality through parallel digital tools.
