Allstate is building a proprietary agentic AI platform called Allie that will handle customer interactions and enable agent-to-agent processing, CEO Tom Wilson said Thursday during a Q2 2026 earnings call. The insurer did not disclose a timeline for the platform's launch, but Wilson said the architecture includes eight integrated components designed to be reused across the enterprise.
"For example, one component will handle all customer interactions. Each component is comprised of multiple agentic agents, which are built to be reused across the enterprise," Wilson said.
The platform builds on Allstate's existing analytics infrastructure, which operates 250 analytical models that generate 100 million quotes while managing hundreds of millions of customer interactions. The company has been developing its AI strategy for years, rolling out Amelia, an AI chatbot for customer service representatives, back in 2018.
From chatbots to selling policies
Allstate's earlier AI work has already moved beyond customer service support. Earlier this year, the company said AI was helping take customer service tasks off agents' desks and actively selling policies in three states.
"We're live in the market doing that right now on a particular product," Wilson said during a Q1 2026 earnings call in April. "It's more of a learning [experience], but it's doing it in three states. It's closing policies."
The company's broader approach to AI Agents & Automation has earned external recognition. Market intelligence firm Evident Insights ranked Allstate No. 9 on its AI Index - Insurance 2026, the second consecutive year the insurer placed in the top 10. Evident also ranked Allstate among the top five firms in the innovation category, citing its research and patents.
Technology-first strategy
Wilson framed Allstate's AI push as a shift in how the company approaches technology. "We have a technology-driven strategy, not a strategy supported by technology," he said. "The difference may sound subtle, but in execution it's significant. A technology-driven strategy looks at technology first to determine how it can be leveraged to improve customer value and generate attractive returns."
Alongside the agentic platform work, Allstate is upgrading its orchestration layer through what it calls the Connected Customer Cloud, or C3. Wilson said the move puts systems on the same platform without requiring the company to retire legacy technology. "We just thought it made sense, but it's positioned us to do Allie well."
Why this matters for customer support professionals
Allstate's trajectory shows a clear pattern for AI for Customer Support: tools that start as assistant features for human agents tend to expand into autonomous work. The insurer's AI now handles policy sales, not just routine inquiries. For customer support teams, that means the role of the agent shifts from executing tasks to supervising AI systems and handling exceptions. Understanding how agentic platforms are structured - and what they can and cannot do - will matter for anyone whose job involves customer interactions.
