Anthropic expands financial services push, CEO warns of software disruption
Anthropic released 10 AI agents designed for banks and insurers on Tuesday, accelerating its move into financial services. The tools can automate tasks including pitchbook creation, statement audits, and credit memo drafting. The company also announced new data sources its Claude AI can access for financial work.
At a New York event, CEO Dario Amodei said the company's quarterly revenue grew 80 times on an annualized basis. Financial institutions now represent 40% of Anthropic's top 50 customers, making AI for Finance the company's second-largest revenue source after technology.
Amodei appeared onstage with JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon. When asked about AI's impact on jobs, Dimon acknowledged both potential improvements and "legitimate concerns" about negative effects.
SaaS companies face existential pressure
Amodei delivered a blunt assessment of software-as-a-service companies. He said AI will make software development cheaper and expand the overall market, but existing SaaS firms face an uncertain future.
"I don't know what will happen to the group of today's SaaS incumbents," Amodei said. Companies that confront AI head-on could perform better than ever, he added, while others may "lose market value, go bankrupt, completely go bust."
This forecast reflects months of investor concern that Anthropic's capabilities could displace traditional enterprise software.
Financial services adoption accelerating
Goldman Sachs, Visa, Citi, and AIG have already adopted Anthropic's tools. Banks are particularly focused on accessing Claude Mythos, the company's latest model, to strengthen cybersecurity defenses.
Amodei said Mythos has likely identified tens of thousands of vulnerabilities across industries. He called for legislation governing the release of powerful AI models.
Nicholas Lin, who leads Anthropic's financial services product work, said Claude will develop "vertical-specific intelligence" tailored to finance while remaining broadly applicable across industries. The new agents integrate directly with Claude Code and Cowork software and can be customized to each firm's policies and style.
