Anthropic prepares for IPO as early as November

Anthropic may launch its IPO as early as November 9, 2026, setting the first public valuation for the AI developer. SK Telecom's $100 million investment from 2023 is now worth roughly $200 million, and the company plans to hold through the listing.

Anthropic is preparing to launch an initial public offering as early as the week of November 9, 2026, according to a Bloomberg report. The listing would provide the first public market valuation for the AI company and crystallize returns for early investors, including South Korean telecom giant SK Telecom.

SK Telecom's stake comes into focus

SK Telecom invested $100 million in Anthropic in 2023. That stake is now estimated at roughly 270 billion won, or about $200 million. CEO Jung Jae-hun said the company has no immediate plans to sell. "The IPO could provide a clearer market valuation for its investment," he said, signaling the telecom plans to hold through the listing.

The investment sits inside a broader partnership. In June, SK Telecom joined Project Glasswing, an Anthropic initiative that gave the carrier early access to the Claude Mythos model. The work focused on testing cybersecurity vulnerabilities and building response systems - practical, defensive applications of frontier models.

Telecoms and AI security converge

The collaboration reflects a pattern taking shape across the industry. Telecom operators, with their network infrastructure and security operations centers, are becoming natural partners for AI developers who need real-world testing environments. SK Telecom's involvement in Glasswing highlights how carriers are positioning themselves as more than passive investors in AI companies.

The Anthropic IPO arrives amid a period of heavy spending across the sector. Both OpenAI and Anthropic have reported record development costs alongside revenue growth, making public market access a logical step for funding continued model training and infrastructure.

Why this matters for executives and strategy

Anthropic's IPO will set a public benchmark for how markets value AI model developers - distinct from infrastructure plays like Nvidia or application-layer companies. For executives tracking the space, the listing provides a concrete data point on revenue multiples, cost structures, and investor appetite. SK Telecom's decision to hold its stake also signals how strategic investors are thinking about long-term AI exposure versus near-term liquidity. Professionals weighing similar positions can draw parallels from the outcome.
