Appier Posts Record Q1 Results on AI Agent Deployment Strategy
Appier Group, a Tokyo-listed AI software company, reported record first-quarter revenue of 12.1 billion yen, up 29.4% year-over-year, beating its initial guidance. Gross profit reached 6.5 billion yen with a margin of 53.9%, up from 51.4% in the same quarter last year.
The company's focus on AI agents and automation is driving both growth and profitability. Operating profit surged 153% to 185 million yen, with a 1.5% operating margin. On a constant currency basis, operating profit jumped 473% year-over-year.
Regional and Vertical Performance
Growth accelerated across all major regions. The U.S. and Europe grew 49% year-over-year, while Northeast Asia-which accounts for 70% of revenue-grew 28% on a high base. Southeast Asia expanded 4x year-over-year.
Within specific industries, e-commerce revenue grew over 35%, while online travel and other internet services grew over 40%. The company cited recent customer wins including Trip.com and Omio.
Operational Efficiency Gains
Appier increased gross profit per employee by 27% year-over-year while maintaining stable headcount. This productivity gain reflects the company's shift toward what it calls an "autonomous organization" through internal AI agent deployment.
Customer retention improved, with revenue churn reaching a seven-quarter low of 0.275%. Recurring revenue now accounts for over 95% of total revenue. Average revenue per customer grew 15% year-over-year on a currency-neutral basis.
Market Recognition and Forward Outlook
Gartner named Appier a representative vendor in its 2026 Product Leader Insight report on AI-native applications. The company is the only Japan-listed firm mentioned in the report.
For the second quarter, Appier projects revenue of 12.5 to 12.7 billion yen and operating income of 1.0 to 1.2 billion yen, both ahead of initial forecasts. The company attributes the accelerated profit growth to expanding operating leverage from its AI for marketing solutions and scalable agent deployment.
