BillingPlatform has added three executives to its leadership team - a chief financial officer, a chief product officer, and a chief customer officer - as the AI-native monetization company moves to scale its enterprise business. The company said it has grown revenue more than 500% in the past five years, serving customers including J.P. Morgan, DIRECTV, Instacart, FIS, Panera, and Carrier.
BillingPlatform's software handles metering, billing, and revenue recognition on a single unified metadata model, allowing enterprise teams to configure, analyze, and govern billing operations through conversational interfaces. MGI Research has called this "one of the most strategic software markets in enterprise technology."
CEO Chris Bishop tied the appointments directly to market demand. "The executive depth we are adding reflects the huge opportunity in front of us," he said. "These are the leaders you add when you see market demand is accelerating and you add the expertise and scale to capture it."
New CFO brings billing-sector finance experience
Steven Springsteel joins as CFO from Recurly, a subscription billing platform, where he held the same role. His career spans more than 35 years in enterprise software, including CFO and CEO positions at BetterWorks, MetricStream, Actian Corporation, Liquid Robotics, and MarkLogic. He has led two IPOs and raised more than $400 million in equity and debt financing.
"Coming from a subscription billing company, I know BillingPlatform has built something genuinely differentiated - an AI-native architecture that handles the full revenue lifecycle on a single metadata model at an enterprise scale," Springsteel said.
Product leadership from Workday and Oracle
Rob Zwiebach joins as chief product officer and will work on product strategy with founder and CTO Leo Solomon. Zwiebach previously served as vice president of product management for Financials Management at Workday, where he led the roadmap for a financial suite used by more than 2,100 organizations. Before that, he spent 17 years at Oracle in senior product and development roles.
"Enterprise finance teams have spent years struggling with billing infrastructure that cannot keep pace with how modern businesses configure, price and sell products and services," Zwiebach said.
Customer success leadership from Salesforce and Medidata
Chris King joins as chief customer officer with 25 years in technology, most recently as senior vice president and head of customer success, services, and support at Medidata Solutions. He previously held senior vice president roles at Salesforce and earlier leadership positions at Zuora.
"The companies winning in enterprise software today are the ones that turn a strong platform into consistently measurable customer outcomes - not just at implementation, but across the entire lifecycle," King said.
Why this matters for executives and strategy
For executives tracking AI for Executives & Strategy, the takeaway is less about the individual hires and more about what they signal. BillingPlatform is betting that the convergence of AI and usage-based pricing is a durable market shift, not a short-term trend. The company is also positioning its platform as the infrastructure layer for that shift, with a product leader who knows the enterprise finance systems its customers already run.
For finance leaders specifically, the CFO hire points to a practical reality: billing and revenue systems are becoming AI-native, and that changes how finance teams configure pricing, recognize revenue, and audit their own operations. The executives now in place at BillingPlatform have spent their careers inside the systems - Recurly, Workday, Oracle, Salesforce, Zuora - that most enterprises already use. That experience, not the job titles, is the signal worth watching. For more on how AI is reshaping finance operations, see AI for Finance.
