Exzeo Group (NYSE: XZO) launched Exzeo Ventures, a new division dedicated to building AI-native insurance products and business models. The Tampa-based firm said the unit will focus on agentic AI for catastrophe claims, next-generation underwriting, risk transfer, and distribution automation.
Exzeo Ventures is designed to create entirely new businesses rather than apply AI to existing workflows. The division's stated mission is to find unmet customer needs that were previously impossible to address because the technology or economics didn't support them.
Moving beyond productivity gains
Most insurers have used AI to speed up customer service, accelerate software development, and cut costs. Exzeo argues that approach improves existing models without changing them. The company said its new division targets structural change instead, betting that AI can fundamentally alter the economics of risk.
"Exzeo has always believed that technology creates the greatest value when it enables entirely new ways of solving problems and not simply doing yesterday's work faster," said Paresh Patel, chief executive officer of Exzeo. "The launch of Exzeo Ventures reflects that philosophy."
Patel said the division's mission is "to identify unmet customer needs, develop AI-native solutions, and create entirely new businesses that have the potential to transform industries."
Agentic AI for claims and underwriting
Initial focus areas include agentic AI systems for catastrophe claims processing, which can make autonomous decisions during large-scale loss events. The company said this approach lets carriers manage surge capacity without the overhead of manual processing.
The division is also building underwriting tools that use real-time data and automating distribution to move insurance products to market faster. For insurance professionals in claims, underwriting, or distribution, these are the areas where AI-native systems could change daily workflows. Training on AI Agents & Automation covers how autonomous systems make decisions under pressure.
For those tracking how AI applies to risk assessment and policy administration, the AI for Insurance training track covers similar territory.
Why this matters for insurance professionals
Exzeo's bet is that carriers that build new business models around AI will outperform those that only automate existing processes. If agentic AI can handle catastrophe claims at scale, the economics of risk shift. Carriers can take on exposure that was previously too costly to manage manually, which changes the competitive picture for underwriters, claims teams, and distribution staff.
