Atlanta-based American Growth Insurance (AGI) has launched as an AI-enabled insurance brokerage growth platform with nearly $70 million in committed equity funding. Backed by Rockbridge Growth Equity and venture capital studio Atomic, the retail brokerage aims to help independent agencies scale through a combination of technology and traditional client relationships.

AGI calls itself an "AI-native" brokerage, meaning artificial intelligence is foundational to its technology platform rather than an add-on. "It's not a shiny new object we bolted on and are trying to integrate with other systems, which is the challenge many other brokerages are facing," CEO Brian Morgan said. The company designed its operating model with AI from the ground up.

How the AI-first approach boosts profitability

Before completing its first acquisition, AGI worked with 10 agencies to develop and test its model. The company reported that the test agencies increased profitability by over 50% through a combination of revenue and productivity gains. Morgan said a key driver was making data entry more efficient across workflows like submissions, re-marketing, client servicing, and endorsements. "Ultimately, we made it possible for producers and account managers to direct more of their efforts toward prospecting and advising clients," he said.

Paired with qualified professionals, AI becomes a relationship-building tool. "The benefit of AI from our point of view is that it gives us more time to invest in clients, listen to their needs, and find solutions for their risk challenges," Morgan added.

A partnership model for independent agency growth

AGI's model differs from a typical private-equity roll-up. "We aren't simply looking to stitch together a series of acquisitions," Morgan said. "We are an operator with extensive experience building successful brokerages, and our model enables our partners to become better brokers." AGI is selective, focusing on agencies that share its vision for scaling through enhanced client service. The company said it looks for cultural alignment and long-term growth commitment.

For advisors, the skills needed in an AI-driven brokerage are shifting. Morgan said professionals don't need to be AI technical experts. Instead, they need "AI-native" skills: understanding what AI does well, how to prompt it, and how to automate routine tasks. The majority of their time will still be spent with clients, which means listening, anticipating needs, and creative problem-solving remain essential. "What will separate successful brokers in the future from others in an AI-driven industry is their understanding of how AI technology can make them better at the human side of the insurance business," Morgan said.

Advisors looking to strengthen these competencies can explore resources in AI for Insurance and AI for Executives & Strategy that focus on practical applications in the insurance sector.

Why this matters for insurance professionals

AGI's launch signals that AI is not a future trend but a current competitive advantage for brokerages. For agents and account managers, the key takeaway is not to master AI's technical details but to learn how to delegate routine data entry and service tasks to AI, freeing capacity for client-facing work. Agencies that fail to adopt an AI-native approach risk falling behind on efficiency and service quality. Professionals should expect their roles to shift toward higher-value advisory work, while staying grounded in the traditional relationship skills that have always driven success in insurance.
