CodeBuddy Raises $872,500 Seed Round to Boost AI-Powered Software Development
CodeBuddy, a startup based in Nebraska, has secured $872,500 in a seed funding round led by Invest Nebraska, with participation from Cultivation Capital, Nebraska Angels, and South Dakota First Capital. The fresh capital will accelerate the company’s growth and expand its AI-driven software development platform.
Founded in 2021, CodeBuddy combines AI tools with expert mentorship to simplify software creation, especially for users without formal computer science backgrounds. Its platform supports the entire software development cycle—from installation and task planning to cloud management and architecture design.
Making Software Development Accessible
CEO and Co-Founder Devon Seacrest emphasizes the company’s goal: enabling technically capable individuals who lack a traditional four-year computer science degree to build their own software projects. CodeBuddy’s platform offers an integrated, web-based environment that blends code learning, generation, and assistance.
Rather than focusing on legacy enterprise systems, CodeBuddy zeroes in on new software development. The platform merges AI capabilities with a network of human experts, including mentors and product coaches, to provide comprehensive support and build user confidence.
Growth Plans and Community Focus
The funding will help CodeBuddy grow beyond its current presence in Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, South Dakota, and Oklahoma. The startup plans to increase headcount across development, sales, and marketing. Part of the investment will also back community-building initiatives through the “DEV different” program, which includes podcasts, thought leadership, and product coaching.
With a team of seven, CodeBuddy has raised over $1.5 million in total funding to date. As Seacrest states, “We think the world will be a better place when anybody can build software to improve their lives.”
Why This Matters for IT and Development Professionals
- CodeBuddy offers a hybrid AI-human mentorship model that could serve as a useful resource for developers seeking support outside traditional education paths.
- The platform’s focus on new software projects aligns well with startups and innovation teams looking to accelerate development cycles.
- As AI tools become more common in development, understanding platforms like CodeBuddy can provide an edge in managing both code generation and project planning.
