Dun & Bradstreet has launched new insurance capabilities within Anthropic's Claude AI platform, giving insurers and brokers direct access to verified business data and risk intelligence during commercial underwriting. The integration, built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), can compress underwriting steps that once took days or weeks into minutes-long workflows.
Collapsing underwriting timelines
Commercial underwriting still relies heavily on manual processes, disconnected systems, and multiple data sources. The new D&B integration consolidates business verification, entity resolution, ownership analysis, KYB checks, compliance screening, financial risk assessment, and onboarding into a single AI-assisted workflow. An insurer receiving a new submission can use the system to verify the insured organization, confirm ownership structures, validate broker licenses, run regulatory screening, detect duplicates, and produce a detailed risk profile in seconds.
How the MCP integration works
The integration connects Dun & Bradstreet's Commercial Graph and predictive analytics with Claude through MCP, part of a growing set of AI for Insurance tools that automate the clearance process. Underwriters can now use Claude AI to verify business identities, check ownership structures, and generate risk profiles without switching between systems. The platform combines first-party and third-party data with predictive risk scores, and all outputs are designed to be explainable, auditable, and supported by real-time business intelligence.
Executive perspectives
"For decades, insurance companies have relied on Dun & Bradstreet's verified business data and analytics to help them improve risk selection and pricing and increase profitability," said Scott Spencer, General Manager, Finance & Credit at Dun & Bradstreet. "Now, Claude allows us to draw inference across our Commercial Graph to provide a more holistic understanding of the risks they are insuring. By making D&B's business information and risk intelligence accessible in Claude, not only are our customers able to consider opportunities faster, but the outputs are explainable, auditable, and consistent, allowing decision-makers to act with confidence."
Mike Ram, Head of Insurance at Anthropic, added: "Claude is at its most powerful when it can reason over verified, real-world context. By bringing D&B's business data information and risk intelligence directly in Claude, insurers can create and use agents that act on trusted data. This helps D&B's customers move faster on clearance, underwriting, and claims without compromising the accuracy these decisions demand."
Why this matters for insurance professionals
The integration shifts the underwriting workflow from repetitive data gathering to faster, more informed risk evaluation. For teams handling commercial submissions, that means less time on manual checks and more time assessing complex risks. The emphasis on audit trails and explainable outputs is critical in a regulated industry - it could lower the barrier to AI adoption for insurers that have been cautious about black-box systems. The real test will be how well the tool handles non-standard risks and whether the speed gains hold up in live production environments.
