Flinders University has launched Australia's first MBA specialising in AI strategy and leadership, a two-year program designed for executives and managers who need to lead AI-driven transformation. The new degree, housed within a future-focused Business School, positions South Australia as a national leader in AI business education and responds to growing demand for leaders who can apply AI strategically across all sectors.
Unlike technical AI degrees, the Flinders MBA AI requires no prior technology background. It builds strategic AI literacy, critical thinking and leadership skills from the ground up, preparing graduates to improve decision-making, drive productivity and create competitive advantage.
Targeting leaders across all disciplines
The program combines core MBA studies with AI specialisation in leadership, innovation and business transformation. Students gain practical experience through industry placements and entrepreneurial programs while building professional networks. The curriculum addresses the practical application of AI to solve complex business challenges and deliver measurable organisational impact. Developing this strategic AI capability is the focus of many AI for Executives & Strategy training programs.
Dr Afshin Tanouri, Program Director of the MBA AI, said: "It's vital that business education evolves alongside these changes and this new MBA offering does just that."
Employer demand for strategic AI skills
The launch responds directly to employer needs. Organisations across healthcare, defence, finance and the public sector are seeking professionals who can apply AI strategically and ethically. The program prepares students for high-demand roles in AI strategy, digital transformation and innovation leadership.
Professor Angie Shafei, Dean of Business at Flinders University, said today's graduates need more than technical knowledge alone. "They need the ability to think critically, adapt quickly and make informed decisions in increasingly complex environments."
Why this matters for executives and strategy
For senior leaders, the Flinders MBA AI represents a direct pathway to the C-suite without a technical background. The program's focus on ethical decision-making and practical AI application aligns with the skills employers now demand. Professionals seeking to build similar AI strategy capabilities can also explore resources like the AI Learning Path for CEOs, which offers structured skill development for business leaders.
