London-based connected insurance provider Flock has launched Jay, an agentic AI assistant embedded directly into its customer portal for commercial motor fleet insurance. Available immediately at no extra cost to all policyholders and brokers, the product marks a shift toward proactive, data-driven risk management in a market where real-time telematics already influences underwriting.
What Jay can do
Trained on more than one billion kilometres of real-world driving data, Jay answers natural-language questions about vehicle coverage, driver behaviour, claims status and safety scores. Unlike static reporting tools, it interrogates live fleet data and frames responses around specific actions. The system surfaces emerging risks and sends daily alerts intended to prompt intervention before incidents become claims.
A pilot with 23 fleets across parcel delivery, taxi, self-drive hire and trades saw 87 per cent of participants return for subsequent queries. One operator used Jay to identify that its most serious incidents clustered around a single road segment-a pattern that previously would have required hours of manual analysis.
"For the first time in UK fleet insurance, every customer now has their own expert: someone that knows their fleet inside out, works around the clock, analyses billions of data points on their behalf, and partners with them to help their fleet run well," said Ed Leon Klinger, Flock's chief executive.
Broker access and client conversations
Brokers placing business through Flock gain access to Jay across every fleet on their book, with the same analytical view their clients see. Flock positions the assistant as a tool for client review and renewal discussions rather than a substitute for advisor expertise. The rollout reflects wider interest in AI Agents & Automation that reach customer- and broker-facing roles, moving beyond back-office processing.
Shifting the AI model in insurance
Flock's move places an agentic layer in front of end users, a commercial model that differs from most insurance AI deployments, which have concentrated on claims triage and document handling. The company's historical integration of connected-vehicle data into both pricing and ongoing risk management sets it apart from competitors who use telematics only at quotation stage. The launch comes as UK commercial motor insurers increasingly explore AI for Insurance underwriting and real-time data pricing.
From a compliance perspective, fleet insurance falls under FCA conduct rules on fair value and informed decision-making. An assistant that flags coverage gaps or risk indicators could attract scrutiny under suitability frameworks if its outputs influence policy choices. Flock has not publicly detailed the governance or audit trail behind Jay's outputs.
Why this matters for insurance professionals
Jay's deployment signals a test of whether agentic AI can move the needle on loss ratios and retention, not just operational efficiency. The next meaningful benchmarks will be independently verifiable loss-ratio data over a full policy year and measurable improvements in broker renewal rates. For underwriters, brokers and claims teams, the product previews a future where real-time, fleet-specific AI insights become part of daily client conversations-and potentially part of regulatory expectation.
