Fujitsu will start development of a proprietary AI platform for financial institutions on August 1, 2026, with the finished product set to launch in March 2027. The Uvance for Finance AI Transformation Platform targets regional banks in Japan, giving them a secure way to use AI with highly confidential financial data. The move addresses years of stalled AI adoption that rarely moved past pilot projects.
What's driving the shift
Financial institutions handle sensitive customer and transaction data, making security a non-negotiable requirement. Alongside persistent cyber threats, many banks lack the in-house AI specialists needed to scale beyond small experiments. The cost of running AI systems has also risen, putting pressure on IT budgets. These factors kept AI use limited to narrow tasks, without a foundation for enterprise-wide, continuous operation.
Fujitsu said the platform aims to embed AI directly into business processes and decision-making, rather than treating it as a support tool.
Inside the platform
The platform runs on Fujitsu's Kozuchi Enterprise AI Factory, a dedicated environment where financial institutions keep full control of their data and operational rules. It uses the Takane large language model, built specifically for the legal frameworks, business practices, and terminology of the financial industry. Tasks like loan screening, document creation and verification, and inquiry handling run on Takane to speed up workflows while cutting AI usage costs through a flexible pricing model that mixes flat-rate and usage-based billing.
The system adds generative AI trust technologies, including Fujitsu's guardrail technology, to visualize AI reasoning and risks and to meet strict security requirements. The platform's design also heavily incorporates AI agents and automation, with multiple specialized agents working together to handle customer needs analysis and sales strategy recommendations. A customer understanding agent and a sales activity optimization agent collaborate to support tasks such as loan approvals and document checks. Fujitsu will provide end-to-end support, from planning to continuous operation, so that AI becomes usable even when a bank has a small team.
The initiative reflects a broader push to integrate AI for Finance into everyday banking operations, moving beyond isolated trials.

Why this matters for finance professionals
For finance teams at regional banks, the platform could shrink the gap between AI ambition and real-world deployment. Loan officers and compliance staff may soon work alongside AI agents that handle routine verification and document drafting, freeing them for higher-value work. The emphasis on data sovereignty and guardrails also means risk and IT leaders can push AI adoption without losing control over sensitive data. As the platform moves toward its 2027 launch, teams that start planning integration paths now will be better positioned when the tools become available.
