Hallmark Appoints AI Pioneer Usama Fayyad to Board

Hallmark Health Care Solutions named Usama Fayyad to its Board of Directors, bringing decades of artificial intelligence and data strategy experience to the healthcare workforce intelligence company. The appointment signals Hallmark's focus on building AI-driven tools for healthcare operations and workforce planning.

Fayyad currently chairs Open Insights, an AI and data consulting firm he founded in 2008. He also serves as Senior Vice President for AI and Data Strategy at Northeastern University, where he directs the Institute for Experiential AI and teaches at the Khoury College of Computer Sciences.

Track Record in Enterprise Data

Fayyad was the first executive to hold the Chief Data Officer title after Yahoo acquired one of his startups. He later spent five years at Microsoft on AI and data mining work, then returned to Yahoo as Chief Data Officer and Executive Vice President of Research and Strategic Data Solutions, where he founded Yahoo Research Labs.

Earlier roles include founding the Machine Learning Systems group at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and serving as Global Chief Data Officer for Barclays. He co-founded OODA Health, a healthcare technology company that Cedar acquired in 2021.

Fayyad has authored more than 100 technical articles, holds more than 20 patents, and is a fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence and the Association for Computing Machinery.

Hallmark's Platform and Scale

Hallmark's Workforce Intelligence and Enablement platform helps healthcare systems with workforce planning, physician management, compensation visibility, and operational decisions. The platform currently serves more than 50 health systems and manages more than $10 billion in physician compensation annually.

The company supports sourcing for more than 25,000 clinicians and is used by more than 100,000 users daily.

The Problem Fayyad Addresses

Fayyad said healthcare organizations manage large amounts of workforce, financial, and provider data but lack real-time visibility for coordinated decisions. Many existing systems focus on transactions rather than operational intelligence.

"Fragmented data, manual processes, and limited context leave healthcare leaders reacting instead of planning," Fayyad said. "Hallmark is built to provide the intelligence, visibility, and coordination health systems need to turn that data into actionable decisions."

Bharat Sundaram, CEO of Hallmark Health Care Solutions, said Fayyad's expertise will help the company deliver actionable insights to healthcare leaders managing complex workforce and financial challenges.
