Henry Ford, MSU fund heart valve detection and radiation imaging

The Henry Ford + MSU Innovation Fund selected LightHearted AI and M3D as its first investments, the organization said July 30. LightHearted AI is developing a non-invasive tool that uses visible light to detect heart valve disease. M3D is building radiation imaging technology to help clinicians identify radiation sources. The fund, launched last year with a $10 million commitment from Henry Ford Health, Michigan State University and the MSU Research Foundation, focuses on early-stage artificial intelligence, digital health, medical device, remote monitoring and precision medicine companies. It aims to help startups move from pre-seed through Series A.

Teladoc One puts fees on the line with AI-driven care coordination

Teladoc Health released Teladoc One, a virtual model that coordinates care through multidisciplinary teams supported by artificial intelligence. The company's Pulse intelligence engine analyzes clinical history alongside claims, pharmacy, medical record and device data. The goal is to spot patient needs earlier and make appropriate referrals, improving chronic condition management, the company said in a July 23 news release. Under the model, Teladoc places all of its fees at risk, tying payment to clinical outcomes and total cost-of-care performance. Programs will initially focus on populations with cardiometabolic needs, starting with select clients in September and expanding in January.

The funds will expand governance, monitoring and safeguards for health systems deploying AI at scale on Bunkerhill's Carebricks platform. Health system customers include Cleveland Clinic, the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and Intermountain Health.
