HubSpot's Customer Agent now resolves 72% of support tickets without human escalation, moving AI from pilot projects to measurable production use in customer service. The milestone comes as businesses tighten technology budgets and demand proof that automation improves outcomes.
Customer Agent hits 72% resolution rate
HubSpot CEO Yamini Rangan announced the resolution rate in the company's Q2 earnings, noting that the agent has now surpassed 10,000 customers. The metric tracks whether customers receive complete answers without requiring a human agent.
One customer, HR software provider Sesame HR, previously responded to only 70% of incoming support tickets. After deploying HubSpot's agent, it now covers all tickets received, with 60% fully resolved without human escalation. The results led Sesame HR to purchase more than one million AI credits to expand into additional HubSpot agents.
"The outcomes, the quality of outcomes is what will enable more small, medium businesses to adopt AI," Rangan said.
Data Agent leads adoption as a low-risk entry point
While Customer Agent handles front-line support, HubSpot's Data Agent is growing faster. It now has over 16,000 customers activated, up 80% quarter-over-quarter, making it one of the company's fastest-growing AI products.
Rangan attributed the uptake to businesses starting with internal use cases before moving to customer-facing ones. "Customers start with internal facing agent, which means that Data Agent, the reason you see that very high adoption of Data Agent is because they're comfortable using an internal use case," she said.
The broader agent ecosystem is expanding as well. More than 55% of Pro Plus customers now use either AI agents or Breeze Assistant. Monthly agentic actions across the customer base have more than tripled this year, and weekly active usage of Breeze Assistant has doubled since the start of the year. Over 2,700 customers have activated Agent Builder and Agent Hub.
Renewal pressure tests the value of AI spending
Adoption is one thing. Retention is another. HubSpot reported customer dollar retention in the high 80s, with net revenue retention down one percentage point year over year. The results come alongside 17.5% revenue growth and 306,000 total customers, with 7,000 net additions in Q2.
CFO Kate Bueker acknowledged that customers are reassessing their technology spend at renewal. "As customers come up for renewal, we're seeing some downgrade pressure as they sort of optimize their overall spend," she said.
Buyers are asking whether AI agents can work reliably with their own CRM data and business processes, and whether costs remain predictable. Rangan admitted that the biggest challenge is making sure agents produce dependable outcomes. "What takes one more jump is really making sure that the outcomes of any agent that interacts directly with customers is solid, and that is the Prospecting Agent and the Customer Agent and so on," she said.
On pricing, she said customers want clarity and predictability. "It's not surprising that customers who are navigating a platform shift, they want clarity in terms of the outcomes that they can get, and they want predictability in terms of the cost." HubSpot is responding with lower entry prices, outcome-based pricing, trials, usage visibility, and customer-defined spending thresholds.
Why this matters for customer support professionals
The 72% resolution rate shows AI is handling a significant share of frontline tickets, which shifts the support role toward complex cases, oversight, and exception handling. Support leaders should track resolution quality and escalation patterns, not just adoption numbers, to justify AI spending and protect the customer experience.
