Imperial Executive Education has launched a seven-month online Chief Data and AI Officer Programme, with enrolment open for a June 2026 start. The programme equips senior leaders to align data, analytics and AI with enterprise strategy and build governance frameworks, responding to McKinsey findings that 51 percent of organisations using AI report at least one negative consequence.
Launched in collaboration with Emeritus, a global provider of accessible high-quality education, the programme includes live online sessions, case studies and capstone assignments. Graduates earn a verified digital certificate and Associate Alumni status from Imperial Executive Education.
Curriculum tackles AI risk at scale
Niresh Rajah, Chief Data and AI Officer and Industry Expert at Imperial Business School, said: "Today's data and AI leaders need to deliver real business value at scale while managing risk and complexity." The curriculum addresses this through executive leadership, AI and data strategy, enterprise data architecture, governance, and applied generative and agentic AI. It moves organisations beyond fragmented AI pilots by building coordinated, responsible transformation.
Built for senior AI decision-makers
The programme targets leaders responsible for data, AI, technology, transformation, governance or enterprise architecture. It helps them gain the strategic acumen and technical expertise that Rajah flagged as essential for executive-level AI roles. Senior leaders shaping AI strategies can complement such training with an AI Learning Path for CEOs.
Mike Malefakis, President of University Partnerships at Emeritus, said: "The Chief Data and AI Officer Programme equips senior leaders to align AI innovation with enterprise strategy, strengthen governance and build the data foundations needed to scale AI responsibly."
Why this matters for Executives and Strategy
AI strategy now demands leaders who manage risk and drive measurable outcomes, not just deploy technology. The Imperial programme provides a structured way to develop the cross-functional capabilities that boardrooms expect. For strategy-focused executives, governance and scalable deployment are foundational. Professionals can also find ongoing guidance through AI for Executives & Strategy resources.
