Instanda launches AI platform to manage insurance workflows outside core systems
Instanda has released INSTANDA Clear, an AI-supported platform designed to manage underwriting and operations work that typically falls outside standard policy administration systems. The platform addresses a longstanding operational gap by bringing underwriting referrals, fraud investigations, complaints, renewals, reinsurance processes and complex mid-term adjustments into a single governed environment.
Much of this work currently happens through email, spreadsheets and separate tools, leaving insurers without clear visibility into ownership, deadlines and decision histories. INSTANDA Clear consolidates these tasks while keeping final decisions with underwriting and operations teams.
How the platform works
Insurers can configure workflows and task screens to match their own processes. Users add tasks, checks and follow-up actions as cases develop. The system builds in automated steps, notifications and email communications where appropriate.
A central feature is an AI email inbox that converts inbound messages into tasks, captures context and routes them to the correct workflow. This reduces manual task creation across different systems.
Once work is completed, outcomes write back to core systems - including INSTANDA PAS, policy administration systems, claims platforms, customer relationship management tools and third-party software.
Designed for human judgment, not replacement
The platform extends beyond traditional underwriting workbenches, which typically display information but do not control how work gets done. INSTANDA Clear is built around three principles: visibility of work in one place, controlled workflows with full audit trails, and clear completion records.
Kevin Gaut, from INSTANDA, said the system was designed to support rather than replace underwriting judgment. "Insurance underwriting is fundamentally human work. While automation can handle predictable processes, complex underwriting cases still rely on expertise, judgement and collaboration across multiple teams and systems," Gaut said.
The platform also supports coordination beyond internal teams. Brokers, underwriters, operations staff, specialists, coverholders and third parties can be included in managed workflows, reducing reliance on disconnected communications.
Market context
The launch reflects pressure on insurers to handle greater operational complexity and regulatory scrutiny while improving efficiency without weakening governance. Insurers have invested heavily in automating distribution and policy administration, but much complex underwriting work remains fragmented.
INSTANDA operates in the US, UK, Europe and Asia-Pacific. The Clear platform extends the company's technology offering beyond product creation and policy administration into more complex, human-led insurance processes.
This release follows earlier work on INSTANDA's AI products, including its Journey initiative and INSTANDA MAX.
