Instinct, the AI assistant startup that reached a $2.5 billion valuation just one month ago, has raised another $1 billion in a Series C round led by Sequoia Capital, Benchmark Capital, and Coatue. The new funding values the company at $10 billion, a fourfold jump that underscores the intense investor appetite for consumer AI agents capable of taking action on a user's behalf.

The round was confirmed in a press release Monday, though The Information had reported on the fundraising efforts earlier this month. The speed is notable for a company that only launched its invite-only service in August 2026.

What Instinct's AI agent actually does

Unlike earlier chatbots that primarily answered questions, Instinct handles tasks using its own phone number and computer. It can book travel, make restaurant reservations, purchase items, pay bills, cancel subscriptions, order groceries, and conduct research. The company recently added a "concierge" feature that places phone calls for users to manage appointments at businesses without online booking systems. A "trusted person network" also lets one person's Instinct agent coordinate plans with friends' agents.

These capabilities demand significant personal data. Some users have pushed back on the amount of information they must disclose, and Instinct's initial privacy policy drew criticism for overreach. The policy has since been updated.

Competition arrives from Meta

Instinct's growth coincides with Meta's launch of Muse, its own AI assistant with overlapping features and a key advantage: deep integration with Meta's social products. Muse can monitor and summarize Instagram DMs and Facebook Groups, track Marketplace listings, and perform many of the same tasks Instinct handles. That integration has pushed Muse to the top of U.S. app stores, with millions of downloads.

Instinct, which communicates with users through SMS and texting, does not yet have a mobile app. The company has not disclosed user numbers or growth metrics. Founder Noah Shinn declined interview requests alongside the funding news but offered a statement: "We're building Instinct to be the best personal agent that can handle the deeply personal nuances of everyday life. This funding helps us bring Instinct to more people and continue building the future of personal AI. It's an exciting, creative time, and we're just getting started."

Why this matters for customer support, hospitality, events, and sales professionals

AI agents like Instinct and Muse signal a shift in how consumers will expect to interact with businesses. For customer support teams, these tools mean incoming calls and messages may increasingly come from an AI representing a customer rather than the customer directly. Hospitality and events staff should prepare for reservations, bookings, and coordination requests initiated by agents that can negotiate times, compare options, and confirm details without human intervention on the buyer's side.

Sales professionals face a parallel change: an AI agent screening purchases, canceling subscriptions, or managing household buying decisions changes the dynamics of retention and upselling. Understanding how these agents make decisions becomes as important as understanding the customer. Professionals who work directly with scheduling, purchasing, or client communication can benefit from familiarizing themselves with AI Agent Courses that cover task automation, or AI Productivity Courses focused on integrating these tools into daily workflows.
