Japan Post Insurance signs enterprise-wide AI agreement with Salesforce

Japan Post Insurance signed an enterprise-wide artificial intelligence agreement with Salesforce Japan on August 7, becoming the first company in Japan to enter into such a contract with Salesforce. The deal covers Agentforce, Salesforce's AI agent platform for large enterprises, and is meant to broaden AI use across the insurer's sales, contact center, and marketing operations.

The agreement combines Salesforce's enterprise license framework, known as SELA, with Flex Credits-Unlimited, which eases usage-based limits for Agentforce. Japan Post Insurance already uses Salesforce products in parts of its business, including Agentforce Financial Services in contact center operations and some sales functions, and Agentforce Marketing in marketing activities.

Plans for a company-wide data platform

Under the new agreement, the insurer plans to extend Salesforce usage in sales and build a company-wide data platform by linking data across the organization through Data 360 and MuleSoft. The goal is to support customer-facing activities across multiple channels, including consultant and call center interactions and content distribution by email and other means.

Japan Post Insurance said the initiative supports what it calls a "Kanpo value provision model," integrating in-person channels with remote and digital tools and using AI to provide more convenient and wide-ranging services. The contract lets the company scale Salesforce usage flexibly and promotes Agentforce adoption across all business areas, combining AI with customer data and human staff capabilities to improve proposals and communication tailored to individual customers.

What Agentforce is

Salesforce describes Agentforce as an AI agent platform built on its existing business, data, and security infrastructure. The platform is designed to improve productivity in customer support and sales while enabling more personalized services.

Why this matters for insurance professionals

Japan Post Insurance, known in Japanese as Kampo Life, is one of Japan's major life insurers and grew out of the country's postal life insurance system. Its agreement with Salesforce is part of a broader push in Japan's life insurance market to accelerate digitalization in sales and service operations as insurers seek better productivity and customer contact through cloud software and AI tools.

The practical takeaway: AI agents are becoming part of everyday insurance workflows, not experimental technology. As carriers like Japan Post Insurance link agent platforms with customer data across channels, insurance professionals will find themselves working alongside AI agents in sales, service, and marketing. Knowing how these tools fit into customer communication, and how data platforms feed them, is becoming a job skill for insurance roles, not just an IT concern.
