Kapital Grupo Financiero raises US$125 million to expand AI platform and international operations

Kapital Grupo Financiero has raised US$125 million in new capital from Tru Arrow Partners and Fasanara Capital, with participation from Cervin Ventures, Niya Partners, and Overlook Capital. The Mexico-based fintech will use the funds to expand its proprietary AI platform and push deeper into the United States, Latin America, and Europe. The raise follows a first half in which the company posted nearly US$50 million in net profit and grew its credit portfolio 220% year over year.

The transaction builds on Kapital's Series C round from September 2025, when it raised up to US$110 million and doubled its valuation to more than US$1.3 billion. That milestone made Kapital Mexico's first AI-focused fintech unicorn. The company secured its commercial banking license through the acquisition of Banco Autofin, giving it a dual structure that combines regulated banking operations with proprietary software engines.

Kapital's first-half results show the scale behind the new capital. Total credit portfolio exceeded US$1.7 billion, up 220% from the prior year. Total deposits reached over US$3.5 billion, a 234% year-over-year increase. The company serves more than 350,000 active clients across Mexico, the United States, Europe, and Latin America.

Risk metrics remained contained during the expansion. The non-performing loan ratio stood at 2.86%, while the efficiency ratio came in at 34.9%. Those figures indicate cost discipline and controlled underwriting as the company scales across international borders.

Where the capital goes

"This new capital will allow us to accelerate our next stage of growth and expand our impact in priority markets such as Mexico and the United States," said RenΓ© SaΓΊl, CEO and cofounder of Kapital.

The company plans to direct the funding toward AI model training, automated credit underwriting, and data analytics tools. The goal is to extend enterprise lending and digital banking tools across its primary international jurisdictions. Kapital's strategy reflects a broader trend in Latin American venture capital, where funding has concentrated in mature scale-ups with proven profitability and controlled risk profiles.

Why this matters for finance professionals

Kapital's trajectory shows how AI-driven underwriting is reshaping corporate credit in Latin America. A regulated bank with a 34.9% efficiency ratio and sub-3% NPLs while growing its loan book 220% year over year is a meaningful data point for anyone tracking fintech economics or credit risk models. The dual banking-plus-software structure also provides a template for how fintechs can operate as regulated lenders while building proprietary technology. For finance professionals watching cross-border credit markets, Kapital's expansion into the United States and Europe is worth monitoring over the next two quarters.
