KPMG and Light partner to build AI-native finance functions

KPMG and Light have formed a cooperation to embed AI agents directly into core finance operations. The alliance pairs KPMG's business transformation and change management expertise with Light's AI-native finance platform, which unifies general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payments, and reporting into a single system.

Finance teams can now operate from one intelligent platform where AI agents handle repetitive operational tasks. The goal is to shift finance professionals away from manual work and toward strategic decision-making, faster execution, and stronger controls.

What the combined offering includes

Light's platform replaces fragmented finance technology stacks with an integrated system. AI agents automate work traditionally performed manually across the full finance function. The platform covers the transaction lifecycle from payables and receivables through to close and reporting.

KPMG brings end-to-end transformation capabilities: strategy and operating model design, technology adoption, and organizational change management. Together, the two firms aim to help organizations build AI-native finance functions where intelligent agents and finance professionals work side by side.

"The true value of AI is realized only when it is embedded into core business processes and daily ways of working," said Jan NystrΓΆm, Partner, Business Transformations at KPMG Finland. "KPMG's expertise and Light's innovative platform help our clients achieve measurable business outcomes faster and with greater confidence."

Moving from standalone automation to agentic operations

Pasi Rautanen, Director of Management Consulting at KPMG Finland, pointed to a clear market shift. "We are seeing a clear market shift from standalone automation solutions toward fully agentic finance operations," he said. "Our goal is to help clients adopt technologies that free finance teams from manual work and enable them to focus on value creation."

Michael Leibbrandt from Light described the practical path this creates for organizations. "AI creates value through business processes," he said. "The combination of KPMG's transformation capabilities and Light's AI-native platform provides a practical path from vision to execution. Organizations can move beyond fragmented finance technology stacks and begin building a finance function designed for the age of AI, automation, and autonomous agents."

The emphasis is on embedding AI into daily workflows rather than treating it as a standalone tool. For finance leaders exploring this shift, structured learning paths such as AI Learning Path for CFOs can help bridge the gap between strategic vision and practical implementation. The broader category of AI for Finance covers the technologies and process changes now reaching maturity in enterprise finance environments.

Why this matters for finance professionals

The partnership signals that agentic AI is moving from concept into operational finance platforms. For finance professionals, the immediate implication is a shift in daily work: less time on transaction processing and reconciliation, more time on analysis, business partnering, and decision support. The change also raises the bar for controls and audit readiness, since AI agents operate within a single system with full traceability.

Organizations still running on fragmented ERP modules and bolt-on automation tools now have a concrete alternative. The KPMG-Light model ties technology adoption to process redesign and organizational change, which addresses the common failure point of buying AI tools without rethinking how work actually gets done.
