KPMG launches AI assistant for month-end financial close
KPMG has released an AI assistant designed to handle repetitive accounting work during month-end closing cycles. The tool, called KPMG Ignite Financial Close Companion, runs on Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise and integrates directly into Workday.
The assistant accepts natural-language instructions to initiate and execute close activities. It reviews financial information, identifies irregularities, and flags items requiring attention.
What it does
The tool guides users through a sequenced close checklist aligned to established protocols. This design aims to prevent omissions and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
Finance teams can use it to close faster while freeing accountants to focus on strategic work rather than repetitive tasks.
The partnership
The assistant reflects a three-way collaboration: KPMG contributes finance and AI expertise, Workday provides its human resources and finance platform, and Google Cloud supplies the underlying AI capabilities.
Brian Anderson, KPMG LLP's Workday Platform leader, said the tool "directly addresses" pressure for faster financial reporting. "This collaboration allows finance teams to close faster with greater confidence while freeing professionals to focus on higher-impact strategic work," he said.
Kevin Ichhpurani, Google Cloud's Global Partner Ecosystem president, described it as an example of the "digital teammate" model, where AI systems handle repetitive tasks so accountants can focus on analysis.
Broader context
The launch extends KPMG's existing work with Workday and Google Cloud. AI agents are increasingly being adopted across workflows to support finance and accounting teams.
