Liberty Mutual launches ChatGPT auto insurance quoting app
Liberty Mutual Insurance has launched a conversational AI quoting app within ChatGPT that generates auto insurance quotes in minutes through chat instead of traditional web forms. The seventh-largest auto insurer in the US currently offers quotes in seven states: Arizona, Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri, New Mexico, Utah, and Wisconsin.
ChatGPT users who connect to the Liberty Mutual app answer a short series of questions, then receive a personalized quote based on the company's rating engine. Users complete their policy purchase on LibertyMutual.com after receiving their quote.
The approach differs from insurance aggregator apps that display estimated price ranges and direct users to multiple websites. Liberty Mutual's app provides a single, accurate quote tied to its own underwriting system.
Expansion timeline and competitive positioning
Liberty Mutual plans to expand conversational AI quoting to more than 40 states by year-end. The rollout reflects insurers' efforts to meet customers on emerging platforms where they already spend time.
Tyler Asher, Liberty Mutual's Chief Distribution and Marketing Officer for US Retail Markets, said the company is responding to how consumers now shop for insurance. "Consumers have more choice than ever in how they choose to shop, including emerging channels like conversational AI and large language model platforms," he said.
For insurance professionals, this deployment signals how AI for Insurance is moving beyond internal operations into customer-facing channels. The shift requires understanding both the technology and how it changes the quote-to-bind workflow.
