Liberty Mutual Launches Car Insurance Quotes Through ChatGPT
Liberty Mutual Insurance now lets customers get car insurance quotes through ChatGPT, replacing traditional online forms with a conversation-based process embedded directly in the chat platform.
The service is live in seven states: Arizona, Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri, New Mexico, Utah, and Wisconsin. The insurer plans to expand to more than 40 states by year-end.
How It Works
Users answer a short series of questions within ChatGPT. Once complete, they move to LibertyMutual.com to finalize coverage and bind the policy.
Liberty Mutual uses its own pricing engine to generate quotes based on user inputs, rather than providing estimated ranges or directing customers elsewhere. The company says quotes arrive in minutes.
Why This Matters for Insurance Professionals
This move reflects how insurers are testing generative AI and chat interfaces to reduce friction in customer acquisition. The shift targets mobile and digital-first shoppers who expect faster, less formal buying experiences.
Tyler Asher, chief distribution and marketing officer for US retail markets at Liberty Mutual, said the company is meeting customers on the platforms they already use. "Consumers have more choice than ever in how they choose to shop, including emerging channels like conversational AI and large language model platforms," he said.
For insurance professionals, understanding AI for Insurance applications-from customer acquisition to underwriting-is becoming essential as carriers adopt these tools to streamline operations and compete for digital-first customers.
