M42 and Diaverum launched kidney.com, a free AI-powered kidney health assistant, in Abu Dhabi on 13 May 2026. The platform goes live first in the UAE, France, Germany, Portugal and the UK, with additional markets planned. It signals a deliberate move away from general-purpose generative AI toward condition-specific platforms grounded in clinical evidence, as chronic kidney disease costs European healthcare systems an estimated €140 billion a year and affects between four and five per cent of adults in the UAE, rising sharply with age.
More than 30 nephrologists, physicians and nurses across 13 countries shaped the platform's content. During testing, over 14,000 chat interactions helped validate its performance. Features include voice control, product label interpretation and multilingual support-English, Arabic, French, German and Portuguese interfaces are live, with more languages in development.

Dimitris Moulavasilis, group chief executive officer of M42, described kidney.com as part of a broader evolution in healthcare AI. "Unlike broad AI models, kidney.com is trained in curated, evidence-based content and built with direct clinical oversight," he said. By combining M42's AI capabilities with Diaverum's 35 years of renal-care expertise, the assistant delivers condition-relevant education rather than generic health information. Moulavasilis said AI-powered health assistants must be built on trusted medical content with clear guardrails. The platform operates under continuous monitoring, with data privacy protections and regulatory compliance built into its design from the start.
Expanding access across languages and borders
Conversational AI can make complex renal information more accessible, particularly since many patients receive a diagnosis late. Moulavasilis pointed out that allowing people to ask questions in natural language and receive tailored, evidence-based guidance can improve understanding of risk factors, lifestyle choices and disease management. "Better-informed patients are often more engaged in their care, which can improve adherence, encourage earlier intervention and ultimately support better long-term outcomes," he said. The multilingual rollout aims to extend that reach across diverse populations, and future integrations with wearables and health records could support more proactive, continuous care.
