Milestone Systems releases AI tools for security operations built on real-world video data
Milestone Systems announced three generative AI solutions for security teams: AI Search, Video Summarization, and Video Anonymization. The tools are designed to reduce manual work in video review, incident documentation, and compliance with privacy regulations.
Security operators still rely heavily on manual processes to review footage, write incident reports, and redact sensitive information. The stakes are high-missed alarms or false positives can have serious consequences, and many organizations worry about AI hallucinations and unreliable outputs in critical situations.
Regulatory pressure adds another layer. The EU AI Act and GDPR create compliance requirements that make organizations cautious about how they use video data, even data they already own.
How the tools work
AI Search lets operators describe what they're looking for in plain language instead of using complex filters or manually scrubbing through footage. An operator investigating a traffic accident can describe a vehicle and surface relevant clips across dozens of cameras in seconds.
Video Summarization automatically generates text descriptions of video footage. When an alert triggers, the system can produce a structured incident report without operator input. This standardizes documentation and cuts review time.
Video Anonymization automatically redacts faces and license plates before footage is exported or shared with external authorities. This addresses GDPR requirements without manual effort.
Built on compliant video data
Milestone's generative AI models are trained on what the company calls the world's largest compliant video library. The data comes from fair-exchange agreements with customers, is fully anonymized using technology from brighter AI, and is tagged with over 300,000 categorizations.
The library focuses on use-case specific scenarios. The initial datasets cover EU and US traffic scenarios and are used to fine-tune NVIDIA Cosmos Reason foundation models. Performance tests of the traffic model show a 19.4% improvement in flow and direction correctness and a 4.4% improvement in alert verification accuracy compared to base foundation models.
Every model trained on this data is traceable and aligned with the EU AI Act and GDPR. The city of Genoa, Italy, recently joined as a data collaborator to expand geographic coverage.
Deployment options
AI Search will be available by the end of 2026. For organizations requiring air-gapped environments with no internet connection, Milestone will offer on-premises AI Search through BriefCam.
Video Summarization integrates with XProtect's rules engine and can run automatically on alerts, on a schedule, or on demand. Video Anonymization will be available soon in Arcules and XProtect.
Andrew Burnett, chief technology officer at Milestone Systems, said: "The answer is trust. Trust that the data is compliant, trust that the AI is accurate, and trust that these tools will genuinely make operators' jobs easier."
