The Management and Strategy Institute (MSI) launched a new Certified AI Business Management Professional certification on August 17, 2026. The self-paced online program teaches managers to apply AI to strategy, operations, and leadership without requiring a technical background or prior AI experience.
The certification arrives as AI shifts from an emerging trend into a core management capability across every industry. Many professionals now face expectations that outpace their training, creating a gap between what leadership roles demand and what managers were taught. That gap carries real consequences: professionals who don't learn AI applications risk losing promotions to colleagues who speak about the technology with confidence, while organizations that fail to build internal capability risk falling behind faster, sharper competitors.
What the program covers
MSI built the curriculum to address that gap directly. It pairs core business management fundamentals - planning, organizing, leading, and controlling - with practical instruction on how AI tools apply to strategic planning, daily operations, people management, and marketing and sales. Topics include forecasting, workflow automation, performance management, and customer engagement, along with the ethics of responsible AI use, such as bias and data privacy.
The program frames AI as a management tool rather than a technical subject. Learners work through the material online at their own pace, and the course concludes with a capstone project that applies the lessons to a real or simulated business scenario. No prior background in either business theory or artificial intelligence is required.
Michael DiLeo, Managing Director at MSI, described the need in concrete terms. "Every manager is being asked to lead in a way that looks completely different than it did even a few years ago, and most were never given a clear roadmap for leadership," DiLeo said. "This certification exists to give professionals that roadmap. It's not about becoming a technical expert in AI. It's about understanding how to apply it confidently and responsibly to the job of managing people, operations, and strategy, which is exactly what today's business leaders need."
A credential for career-minded managers
The certification is open for enrollment at MSIcertified.com. MSI, based in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, also offers credentials in Six Sigma, Lean, Project Management, Leadership, and Ethics.
For working adults balancing full-time careers, the format matters as much as the material. The certification is designed for accessibility, using clear, conversational instruction that assumes no foundational knowledge on either AI, strategy, or management. It targets professionals who want to demonstrate not just familiarity with AI, but the ability to apply it meaningfully across the functions they manage. It also gives organizations a way to build internal AI capability deliberately rather than reacting to external pressure.
Why this matters for executives and strategists
The audience for this credential isn't limited to IT teams or data scientists - it's the department heads, division directors, and business unit leaders responsible for results. For those roles, the relevant question is no longer whether AI will affect their function, but whether they'll lead that change or ride along with it. This program offers a way to close the gap between what leadership roles now require and what most managers were trained to do, and for the professionals who act on it, the outcome is a measurable step from uncertainty to applied confidence.
If the core issue is adapting your management approach to AI, the AI for Management topic area covers techniques fit for those specific functions. For a broader view of how AI tends to reshape strategy at the executive level, the AI for Executives & Strategy section offers related context.
