New AI certification aims to help insurance agents avoid errors and omissions risks

The Risk & Insurance Education Alliance launched a self-paced certification program to help insurance professionals manage the errors-and-omissions risks that come with using AI in their agencies. The Certified AI Insurance Credential (CAIC), developed with AI educator and insurance practitioner Jay Greene, costs $997 and takes roughly 12 to 16 hours to complete.

Many agency owners and producers now use AI for tasks like drafting emails or summaries, but unclear boundaries around the technology are creating new exposures. Inaccurate AI-generated coverage information or privacy disclosures can distance agents from customers and erode the trust that underpins the business. The CAIC program addresses these operational realities directly, rather than treating AI as a technology experiment.

What the curriculum covers

The credential includes nine video modules with knowledge checks and a proctored final exam. Participants get 12 months of access, and the content is updated regularly to reflect changes in both artificial intelligence and the insurance marketplace.

The first module explains what AI is and how it functions inside an insurance workflow. A second module maps the property-and-casualty workflow so participants can see where AI replaces a single step versus an entire process. Later modules walk through the three paths to AI capability - build, buy, or borrow - and examine how AI pressure is reshaping carriers, wholesalers, MGAs, and retail operations.

Module 5 assesses organizational readiness. Module 6 covers vendor selection, including scorecards for technology decisions. Module 7 introduces the concept of the Agentic Agency and uses a return-on-investment framework tied to the bottom line. Module 8 draws on real deployment experiences, and Module 9 focuses on risk, governance, and E&O considerations during adoption and implementation.

Designed for practitioners, not technologists

The Risk & Insurance Education Alliance built the program specifically for insurance professionals facing daily decisions about AI tools. The curriculum helps participants evaluate where AI can create value while protecting client relationships and professional credibility. Enrollment must go through the Alliance to qualify for update credit.

The inaugural CAIC cohort sold out. The credential is owned and operated by Agentic Holdings LLC and maintained through annual content updates so designees stay current as the technology and regulatory expectations evolve.

Why this matters for insurance professionals

Regulators now expect insurers using AI to have governance structures in place. An agent who shares AI-generated coverage details without verifying accuracy is creating a direct E&O exposure. The CAIC program gives agency owners and producers a structured way to evaluate tools, set internal rules, and document decisions - the same rigor they apply to other professional risks. For teams exploring broader AI adoption, AI for Insurance Courses offer additional context on risk assessment and policy automation. Leaders responsible for tool evaluation and governance can also reference AI for Executives & Strategy resources to align technology choices with business objectives.
