OpenAI names Nitin Bawankule as head of enterprise sales for India
Nitin Bawankule will join OpenAI in mid-May as head of enterprise sales for India, leading the company's effort to expand AI adoption across Indian businesses. The appointment reflects growing demand from enterprises seeking to move beyond pilot projects and embed AI across their operations.
Bawankule comes from Amazon Web Services, where he worked on cloud and AI adoption in India. He previously held roles at Google India and Disney+ Hotstar focused on digital transformation and scaling.
His mandate includes helping companies integrate AI into workflows, move from isolated use cases to company-wide deployment, and improve productivity and decision-making. He said in a LinkedIn post that enterprises in India are moving quickly as AI reshapes how businesses operate.
"The opportunity ahead is enormous," Bawankule said, adding that he aims to make AI more accessible and practical for organizations in the country.
The hire signals OpenAI's increased investment in India's enterprise market. The company recently appointed Kiran Mani, former digital CEO at JioStar, as managing director for Asia-Pacific-a newly created role overseeing strategy and operations across key markets including India.
