OneStream Makes AI Tools Work for Finance Teams with New Governance Layer
OneStream announced general availability of SensibleAI Agents and a Finance Agentic Layer that lets finance teams use ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, and Gemini while maintaining data governance and audit trails required for financial operations. The announcements came at the OneStream Splash User Conference in Orlando on May 19.
The Finance Agentic Layer uses an open protocol to give third-party AI tools secure access to OneStream financial data. Every query stays within the user's existing permissions, and administrators can track all activity within OneStream.
How Finance Teams Will Actually Use This
A finance analyst can ask Claude in plain language: "Why is my revenue down this quarter?" The AI tool interprets the request, applies OneStream's financial context, and returns an answer showing price, volume, and mix drivers-without the analyst needing to know account codes or technical syntax.
When ChatGPT is asked to build a dashboard showing trends, variances, and forecast projections, it pulls reports directly from OneStream and produces a C-level output in minutes.
The layer enforces role-based permissions automatically. A user working in any AI tool only accesses data they're entitled to see. Administrators maintain full visibility into who accessed what and when.
SensibleAI Agents Now Generally Available
OneStream's pre-built agents launched in 2025 and are now in wide use across complex businesses. They work natively in OneStream and within Microsoft 365, including Excel and Teams.
Four agent types are available:
- Forecast Agent: Answer questions about forecasts in plain language and get responses grounded in real-time forecast data.
- Finance Analyst Agent: Query financial data using natural language and receive real-time analysis and reports.
- Search Analyst Agent: Search across enterprise documents and unstructured data with source transparency.
- Deep Analysis Agent: Process large volumes of documents like contracts and compliance materials to answer complex questions.
Why This Matters for Finance Operations
Finance teams are adopting AI quickly, but generic tools lack the financial context and controls required for decision-making. OneStream's approach connects AI to trusted data, business rules, and controlled workflows.
Cox Enterprises is already using SensibleAI Agents to automate financial analysis. "Instead of manually searching for information, we can quickly uncover insights into trends, root causes, and what's driving variances," said Allison Adrian, AVP of Finance Solutions Delivery at Cox Enterprises.
The governance built into both the Agentic Layer and SensibleAI Agents means finance teams can produce accurate, auditable results without leaving the tools they use daily.
