Oxford Physical Therapy replaced its homegrown EHR and billing platform with the AI-enabled Athelas practice management system across its 11 locations in February 2026, and the move has produced a 0.5% end denial rate and more than $250,000 in recovered revenue. "We foresaw that AI was going to be a big piece of future advancement, both for documentation but also for RCM/billing," said Matt Ernst, partner and physical therapist at Oxford Physical Therapy. "We knew that payers were using those systems, and we were getting burdened with more paperwork, authorizations and mounting requests to get paid."
Oxford evaluated several vendors before choosing a staged rollout, first implementing AI scribing and revenue cycle management, then moving to the full practice management platform. Ernst credited extensive testing, workflow validation and on-site support with making the transition smoother than previous EHR changes.
"We have been through EHR changes several times before, but the pre-planning here made a huge difference," he said, pointing to training materials, videos and validation testing.
