Prudential Financial Promotes Bob Bastian to Chief Data and AI Officer
Prudential Financial has promoted Bob Bastian to Chief Data and AI Officer, effective immediately. Bastian, who most recently served as CIO and Global Head of Technology for Global Retirement and Insurance, will lead the company's enterprise data, analytics, and AI strategy.
In the role, Bastian oversees data capabilities across Prudential's global operations and sets direction for how the company applies AI to strengthen risk management and improve customer outcomes. He will also establish standards for responsible AI adoption across the organization.
Bastian has spent nearly 30 years at Prudential, holding multiple senior positions in enterprise digital technology, data, and business services. His track record spans technology infrastructure and operational strategy.
Bastian said the promotion represents "a meaningful opportunity for Prudential Financial." He emphasized three priorities: strengthening the company's data foundation, applying AI to help employees work more effectively, and focusing on initiatives that benefit customers and clients.
The move reflects a broader shift among large financial services firms to consolidate data and AI strategy under a single executive. Chief Data and AI Officer roles have become standard at major insurers and asset managers over the past two years as companies move beyond pilot projects to enterprise-scale deployment.
For executives developing AI strategy, understanding how to structure data governance and AI oversight across large organizations is increasingly critical. AI for Executives & Strategy covers implementation approaches and organizational design for these functions.
