Salesforce cuts fewer than 1,000 jobs across marketing and AI teams

Salesforce cut fewer than 1,000 jobs in marketing and AI teams in early February 2026, hitting Agentforce, Heroku, and data analytics staff. The move follows 4,000 customer support cuts in 2025 that CEO Marc Benioff attributed to AI agents.

Salesforce cuts fewer than 1,000 jobs in marketing and AI teams

Salesforce eliminated fewer than 1,000 roles across marketing and AI teams in early February 2026, according to Business Insider. The cuts affected marketing, product management, data analytics, Agentforce, and Heroku teams as the company restructures around artificial intelligence.

The layoffs arrived alongside significant leadership changes. Salesforce appointed six new senior leaders while five executives departed. Iain Mulholland joined from Google as chief security officer.

Part of a larger pattern

These cuts extend a pattern at Salesforce. In September 2025, CEO Marc Benioff said the company had cut 4,000 customer support roles because AI agents were handling much of the work.

For customer support professionals, this shift matters directly. AI for Customer Support is now central to how companies like Salesforce operate. Understanding AI Agents & Automation has become essential for anyone in the field.

Industry-wide trend

Salesforce's moves reflect broader tech industry patterns. Nearly 80,000 employees were impacted by AI-driven layoffs in the first quarter of 2026 alone. January 2026 saw 108,000 U.S. tech job cuts-the highest monthly figure since 2009.

Other major firms have announced similar reductions. Atlassian cut 1,600 employees in March 2026 (10% of its workforce) citing an AI pivot. Cloudflare cut 1,100 jobs in May 2026, explicitly framing the reduction as an "AI-first restructuring."

The pattern is clear: companies are replacing roles with AI capabilities, particularly in customer-facing functions where automation can scale faster than hiring.
