SAP Concur unveiled a wave of AI-powered travel and expense tools at the GBTA Convention 2026, alongside new details from its strategic alliance with American Express Global Business Travel. The company, which holds a 48.1 percent share of the worldwide T&E software market, is rolling out features that automate expense review, virtual card issuance, and meeting planning through 2027.
AI tools for expense management
The centerpiece is an AI-assisted delegates dashboard that consolidates approval requests, bookings, and expense reports into a single workspace. Instead of switching between tools and profiles, delegates can manage multiple travelers from one place while AI surfaces priorities and recommends next steps. The dashboard is available now for early adopters, with general availability planned for Q3 2026. SAP Concur expects it to reduce time spent resolving administrative issues by up to 25 percent.
An AI-assisted approval manager uses AI reasoning to flag high-risk submissions and surface spending trends. It highlights risky items with clear reasoning, along with AI-generated risk insights and approval history in one location. General availability is planned for Q4 2026.
Administrators will also gain AI-powered benchmarking against peer organizations, plus improved policy configuration capabilities. The tool compares program performance against similar organizations, identifies improvement opportunities, and recommends actions. Rollout is expected in Q1 2027.
Virtual cards and meeting planning
A new corporate card management feature lets administrators generate virtual card programs directly from policy documents using natural language prompts. It simplifies creating approval rules and aligning virtual cards to spending limits and merchant category controls. The feature is scheduled for general availability in Q4 2026 for U.S. Concur Expense customers using American Express virtual cards and participating Mastercard network issuers.
The Meeting Planning Agent, powered by SAP's Joule AI, recommends meeting venues based on organizational needs through natural conversation. It becomes available for early adopters in September, with general availability planned for Q4 2026.
The Amex GBT alliance, formed in 2025, produced the "Complete by SAP Concur and Amex GBT" solution, which integrates travel, expense, and servicing capabilities. The partnership aims to give travelers better disruption management and travel managers deeper program visibility.
Why this matters for executives and strategy
These tools shift SAP Concur beyond digitization into autonomous finance, applying natural language processing to tasks like virtual card issuance that previously required manual configuration. The claimed 25 percent efficiency gain for delegates, if realized, will put pressure on finance departments still running manual workflows. Executives planning AI adoption in finance and operations should watch the Q4 2026 rollout, since the success of the Mastercard and Amex virtual card integrations will likely determine how quickly corporate payment systems become programmable and policy-aware.
