Shopify auto-enrolls stores in new AI shopping channels from Meta, Google, and Microsoft

Shopify enrolled stores by default into AI checkout on Meta Muse, Google, and Microsoft Copilot, letting customers buy without visiting the merchant's site. AI-referred store visits jumped 197% year-over-year in Q2 2026, though direct-checkout sales are tracked separately.

Shopify began automatically enrolling eligible stores into new AI shopping channels in late January, sharing product data with platforms like Meta's Muse, Google, and Microsoft Copilot. The default setting lets customers complete purchases directly inside those AI apps without ever visiting a merchant's website.

The feature, called "Allow Shopify to manage for me," distributes product catalogs through Shopify Catalog and activates direct checkout. Store owners remain the merchant of record, handling all fulfillment and returns. No platform currently charges fees on these transactions, though Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company expects to take a small percentage of transactions in the future.

The traffic shift already underway

Shopify reported AI-referred sessions to storefronts grew 197% year-over-year in Q2 2026. That figure only captures visits from AI apps, not direct checkout sales, which appear separately in the admin dashboard. The shopper count on the Agentic page tracks visits, but the full revenue picture requires checking both metrics.

Direct checkout means a customer asks an AI assistant for a product recommendation, selects an item, and pays inside the chat or search interface. The merchant ships the order. The customer never sees the store's own site.

Opting out and product visibility

Store owners can disable auto-enrollment or block specific channels from their admin settings. Turning off catalog access may take up to 7 days to fully stop data sharing. Hiding individual products from AI apps requires marking them as unlisted, which also removes those products from search engines and site search - a trade-off worth weighing carefully.

The advice from Shopify and early observers: keep the feature on to capture emerging traffic, but monitor the channel list regularly as new platforms appear.

Why this matters for marketing and sales professionals

If your company sells through Shopify, your product catalog is likely already visible inside Meta Muse, Google, and Microsoft Copilot unless someone on your team disabled the setting. That means customers may find and buy your products through AI assistants with no involvement from your site, your landing pages, or your checkout flow. Attribution, customer data, and brand experience all shift. Check your admin dashboard now to understand what's live and how it reports.
