SK Group Merges Strategy Meetings to Accelerate AI Decision-Making

SK Group will combine its annual first-half strategy meeting with the Icheon Forum next month, compressing two separate gatherings into a single three-day event focused on artificial intelligence and cross-business growth.

The inaugural "New Icheon Forum" runs June 11-13 at the SKMS Research Institute in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province. The merger collapses what had been separate meetings held in June and August, reflecting SK's assessment that the pace of change in AI no longer allows for staggered discussions.

SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and chief executives from major affiliates-SK Innovation, SK Telecom, and SK hynix-will attend. The three-day format aims to narrow the gap between discussion and execution on group strategy.

Why the Timing Matters

SK has positioned AI at the center of its growth strategy across semiconductors, telecommunications, energy, and digital services. The combined forum allows executives and employees to align on concrete steps to strengthen the group's competitive position in AI while identifying opportunities for cross-business collaboration.

The merger also signals SK's effort to deepen communication between senior management and employees. The original Icheon Forum functioned as a knowledge-sharing platform where executives and staff discussed major business issues. The strategy meeting, held separately, allowed senior leaders to review performance and set priorities for the second half of the year.

SK plans to make the New Icheon Forum an annual June event.

What's on the Agenda

AI is expected to be the primary theme. Discussions will likely focus on semiconductors, telecommunications infrastructure, power supply, and digital services-areas where SK sees AI as central to future growth.

For executives managing strategy across multiple business units, understanding how organizations structure decision-making around emerging technologies is essential. Resources on AI for Executives & Strategy can help frame these organizational decisions.
