Standard Metrics raises $20M Series B led by 8VC

Standard Metrics, an AI-driven portfolio management platform for venture capital and private equity firms, has raised $20 million in Series B funding. The round was led by 8VC with participation from Salesforce Ventures, Spark Capital, January Capital, First Trust Capital Partners, and others. The company said it will use the capital to deepen its AI capabilities, expand its team, and reach more private market investors.

The company launched in 2020 to address investor relations in private markets, building a reporting network to automate collaboration between investors and portfolio companies. It has since evolved into a platform that serves as a single source of truth for portfolio performance and investment data, with automated data ingestion and AI-driven analysis tools for portfolio reviews, valuations, LP reporting, and diligence.

AI tools for investors

Standard Metrics has introduced AI document parsing, an on-platform AI Analyst, MCP interoperability, and AI-native services for data operations and portfolio analytics. These tools are aimed at investors who face increasing competition and need faster access to intelligence about their portfolio companies.

The company said its business has grown roughly 20 times since its Series A. Its platform now supports more than 10,000 portfolio companies and 150 firms managing over $400 billion in assets. Thirty percent of the current Forbes Midas List are Standard Metrics customers.

"Our mission at Standard Metrics is to accelerate innovation in the private markets," said John Melas-Kyriazi, co-founder and CEO of Standard Metrics. "This Series B round is a vote of confidence from investors who believe, as we do, that the firms who embrace AI now will be the ones defining the next era of the private markets."

Alex Moore, board member at Standard Metrics and Partner at 8VC, said: "We are delighted to deepen our partnership with Standard Metrics, a company that we co-founded in 2020. The community of forward-thinking investors and portfolio companies adopting Standard Metrics is impressive, and we see tremendous opportunity ahead for AI to transform the private markets."

Investors including General Catalyst, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Accel use Standard Metrics for partner meetings, portfolio reviews, LP reporting, valuations, and performance benchmarking.

AI adoption in financial management

The funding round reflects a broader shift in how investment firms are adopting AI tools for financial analysis and portfolio oversight. For managers evaluating similar technology, the company's growth - from a reporting network to a platform with AI-native analytics - shows how quickly these tools are moving from experimental to operational. AI for Management training can help professionals assess which capabilities matter for their own workflows. Likewise, AI for Finance courses offer practical grounding in the types of analysis these platforms now automate.

Why this matters for management professionals

For managers in VC, PE, and adjacent financial roles, the takeaway is concrete: AI tools are no longer optional add-ons but core infrastructure for portfolio oversight. The firms adopting these platforms now are building workflows around AI-assisted analysis, reporting, and data operations. Managers who understand what these tools can - and cannot - do will be better positioned to evaluate them for their own organizations, rather than relying on vendor claims.
